What’s the Rush? - By Amy
How many children do you want?
You better not wait too long!
No baby yet after all these years -
Is there something wrong?
Just relax, it’ll happen when it’s meant to!
You should enjoy these carefree days you know.
I heard about friends of friends of friends who…
Perhaps you should give that a go?
What’s the rush, mama?
Please try not to fret,
I’ll come just when I’m ready,
It’s not our time yet.
Don’t give up on me, mama
I promise I’m worth the wait.
I know you had a plan in mind,
But it’s still going to be great!
Are you having a boy or a girl?
Oh when are they due?
You’ve filled out almost everywhere!
So I reckon it’s pink for you!
Are you feeling kicking yet?
Have you bought everything you need?
Who do you think they’ll look like?
Have you thought about how you’ll feed?
What’s the rush, mama?
Why are you always on your feet?
Running here, there and everywhere,
When you can barely eat.
Too many different smells mama,
this is all too much for me,
Sit down and put your feet up please,
Get Dad to make the tea.
Is he sleeping through the night yet?
You’re spoiling him you know,
You need to put him down to sleep,
Or at least nap on the go!
He’ll never learn if you don’t start now,
Just think about his life,
Needing milk from you to get to sleep,
He’ll never find a wife!
What’s the rush, mama?
Can’t we stay like this forever?!
Curled up in your arms,
I don’t want this to end, never.
There’s comfort in your scent,
And in the warm milk that flows from your body to mine,
Soothing every pain or worry,
As our bodies intertwine.
When do you think you’ll stop then?
He’s one now isn’t he?
Doesn’t it hurt you when he squirms like that?
Does he bite you with all those teeth?
Then he can come for a sleepover,
Oh we can’t wait for that day!
What’s a baby for,
If not to share, hey?
What’s the rush, mama?
It’s time for us to play,
I love it when you laugh with me,
And when we dance to start the day.
I don’t need to stop to get washed and dressed,
I just need to play peekaboo,
And bang on all my noisy toys,
Then play chase with you.
Are you going back to work soon?
When do you think you’ll have another?
Life’s not the same as an only child,
I bet he’d love a brother.
How’s he settling at nursery?
You’ll blink and he’ll be starting school.
He’ll soon be running round the garden soon,
Won’t that be so cool?!
What’s the rush, baby?
Your mama can’t keep up
Cruising, dancing, talking,
Drinking from a cup.
I wish time would just slow down for us,
Keep you little a bit longer,
But every skill you learn fills my heart with pride,
And my love grows ever stronger.
The beautiful bond we have,
Only strengthened by every feed,
So we’re not ready to stop yet,
We’ll take as long as we need.
