Join our next workshop

Are you a mum with any experience of breastfeeding? Would you like to join our next creative writing workshop? You don’t need any experience, we’ll help you find the style that works best for you.

It's not just about writing poems that rhyme, it's about telling your story in your own way and empowering you to do so.

Whether you’re seeking connection with other mums, a way to process your journey, or simply an hour to do something just for you, this workshop is yours. Bring your baby or toddler, bring your words (or just a willingness to try), and come as you are.

Everyone is welcome!

Between Us is a powerful exhibition of portraits and poetry exploring breastfeeding, bonding, and the journey into motherhood. It builds on the success of Holding Time, a long-running project by Lisa Creagh, that has travelled across the UK for over eight years and arrived in Halton in the summer of 2024.

Holding Time celebrates breastfeeding while also shedding light on the physical, emotional, environmental, and cultural challenges many mothers face in establishing and continuing to breastfeed. At its heart, it gives women a voice.

In 2024, the project featured portraits and audiograms from women across Cheshire and Merseyside, sharing their personal experiences of breastfeeding. At a special event held at Norton Priory in Halton, women from the Halton area read their poems aloud. The response from both the public and professionals was overwhelmingly positive, with local women from Runcorn and Widnes expressing a strong desire to be involved.

The Creation of Between Us

Starting in 2025, creative writing workshops led by our Infant Feeding Team and volunteers have taken place across Runcorn and Widnes. These sessions offer local women a space to reflect on and share their personal stories of breastfeeding and motherhood.

These voices have come together in Between Us — an exhibition featuring poetry from the workshops alongside striking portraits by local photographers Rebecca Smith of Little Wonderland Photography and Jennifer Catterall of JP Photography.

Between Us is a collaboration between the Halton Infant Feeding Team, Halton Borough Council, Bridgewater NHS Trust, and Halton Family Hubs and is funded by Halton Family Hubs.
