Between Us

Between Us is a powerful exhibition of portraits and poetry exploring breastfeeding, bonding, and the journey into motherhood. It builds on the success of Holding Time, a long-running project by Lisa Creagh, that has travelled across the UK for over eight years and arrived in Halton in the summer of 2024.

Holding Time celebrates breastfeeding while also shedding light on the physical, emotional, environmental, and cultural challenges many mothers face in establishing and continuing to breastfeed. At its heart, it gives women a voice.

In 2024, the project featured portraits and audiograms from women across Cheshire and Merseyside, sharing their personal experiences of breastfeeding. At a special event held at Norton Priory in Halton, women from the Halton area read their own poems aloud. The response from both the public and professionals was overwhelmingly positive, with local women from Runcorn and Widnes expressing a strong desire to be involved.

The Creation of Between Us

In Spring 2025, creative writing workshops led by writer Rachel New took place across Runcorn and Widnes. These sessions offered local women a space to reflect on and share their personal stories of breastfeeding and motherhood.

Between Us is a collaboration between the Halton Infant Feeding Team, Halton Borough Council, Bridgewater NHS Trust, and Halton Family Hubs and is funded by Halton Family Hubs.
