Breastfeeding End - by Rebecca
Seven more weeks until you turn two,
Seven more weeks of breastfeeding you.
I’ve decided to stop with a deadline in mind,
It seems selfish of me, but a new normal we’ll find.
Seven more weeks of our special time together,
I’m so glad we did it, I’ll remember it forever.
Six more weeks of feeding to sleep,
We’ve cut out the day feeds, but night feeds we keep.
Six more weeks and here’s the hormonal drop,
An emotional rollercoaster I wish I could stop.
Six more weeks, to myself I must be kind,
It won’t be hard forever, keep that in mind.
Five more weeks of distractions and snacks,
We take daily pram walks to get you to nap.
Five more weeks of you demanding ‘milk time’,
You settle with songs and nursery rhymes.
Five more weeks and we’re in a good flow,
It’s getting easier with our new routine on the go.
Four more weeks of milky snuggles,
I love feeding you, but it comes with its struggles.
Four more weeks of warm hands on my skin,
So soft, do you have to scratch and pinch?
Four more weeks, I’m feeling touched out,
But I’ll give you more cuddles without a doubt.
Three more weeks, now feeding just once a day,
We no longer co-sleep, in your own room you stay.
Three more weeks, daddy settles you at night,
The first nights were long but now you sleep tight.
Many more weeks of you climbing in our bed,
Warm morning hugs are the best with your messy head.
Two more weeks with no illness I hope,
You’re snotty and clingy, how will we cope?
Two more weeks, is it a cold or teething?
We’ll make it through without comfort feeding.
Many more weeks of snuggles when you’re sickly,
You’ve got long term benefits of a stronger immunity.
One more week, but you no longer care,
You don’t know my count down, it doesn’t seem fair.
One more week, but should I carry on?
What’s the point if you don’t notice it’s gone?
One more week, am I selfish again?
For reminding you of milk time until my deadline end.
Happy birthday my dear, you’ve just turned two!
I can’t believe this journey is through.
Many more weeks of us growing together,
Many weeks, months, years, you’re my daughter forever.
