A Mum Lost, But Motherhood was Found - By Sarah
A baby came crying into the world for her mum,
Little did she know that their relationship would become so numb.
All she knew was hurt and pain,
A pattern that would repeat over and over again.
She would just accept things for how they was,
But not realising at what cost.
A child that would try her best in school,
Trying to not look like a fool.
Not wanting to draw attention to the fact she didn’t know her mum,
But everyone made comments about her not having one.
Every time, she said she didn’t care.
With every comment, it felt unfair.
A teenager with no mother to turn to,
A teacher, a neighbour, an aunt, and a shop assistant, to name a few.
But it was personal advice from a mother that she craved so bad.
The bullying and abuse made her chronically sad.
A girl who had to cope in her own way.
No mum to guide her away.
A girl who grew up with her siblings and dad,
They made things work with what they had.
She would take on a motherly role,
But her lack of a mother was hard to console.
Years would go by with relationships that are vicious,
No mum to guide her away from anything suspicious.
No mother to take her hand,
No mother to cheer her on as she took a stand.
A girl who is now fully grown,
Whom has started to figure out the world on her own.
A young woman whom tries not to lose faith in the world around her,
Even though her world has been lonely and unfair.
Then, one day, she finds the love of her life,
A guy who would cut through her distrust with a knife.
Who would show her that she deserved to be treated right,
Yes, he was her shiny, brave Knight.
Fast forward a couple of years,
They are an engaged couple with barely any fears.
She opens up about wanting to become a mum,
To which he agreed, and then their future plans had begun.
Then, a year later; two lines finally appear,
They were excited about parenthood that was so near.
Three months passed that was full of dread,
A twelve-week scan that discovered their tiny baby was dead.
A few days later, their baby was taken,
But their longing to become parents was unshaken.
Then, two months later, two very strong lines that couldn’t be mistaken.
A twelve-week scan and all was fine,
But the fear struck through her time after time.
As she bonded with her unborn baby and read them book after book.
There was fear for her unborn baby hiding in every nook.
Thirty-six-week scan shown their baby was small,
She was sent to the hospital to see if an induction would work at all.
Her induction failed and turned into a c section,
She just wanted to feel loves protection.
In a room full of strangers,
A place where she agreed on all of the dangers,
A baby came crying into this world for his mum,
A dad and a mum were crying for their son.
A relationship that she craved,
A relationship that as a mum she knew she was saved.
A relationship that would be so tough,
But in her son’s eyes, she would be enough.
A path that she would tread so wearily,
With her having constant doubts but temporarily.
In the back of her mind, she wants her mum,
Just wishing that she didn’t need to act so numb.
She takes every parent class and attends lots of groups
She even has an army of mums like troops.
All ready to stand by her,
To help her and make sure things are fair.
To be there to cheer her on,
To help guide her when she’s struggling to carry on.
To show her what motherhood is supposed to be.
This could be anyone, but this is me.
I came crying into this world for my mum,
To which I realised our relationship would be numb.
My son came crying into this world for me,
To which I made a promise to him I would be his mummy.
I will always be there,
I will always care.
But most of all, I will not put him through that trauma,
Because I am his Mumma.
